The Nike Dunk Low Retro NYC CBGB pays tribute to the legendary Manhattan music venue that served as the birthplace of punk rock and new wave from its opening in 1973 until its closure in 2006 due to a rent dispute, translating the gritty, poster-plastered interior and raw Bowery aesthetic of the club into a Metallic Silver, College Grey, Cave Stone, and Off Noir palette on the Dunk Low's standard leather and suede upper construction with torn and distressed material detailing that gives the shoe a deliberately worn-in character mirroring CBGB's weathered walls. CBGB logos appear on the tongue and heel, while Bleecker and Bowery street sign replicas are printed on the inner tongues as a location-specific detail referencing the exact corner at 315 Bowery where Hilly Kristal opened the club with the original intention of hosting country, bluegrass, and blues acts before the venue became the defining stage for the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television, and the entire American punk and new wave movement.
